ROXAS City – Four fishermen from this city were rescued by local fishermen in Batan, Aklan early Saturday morning, March 9, after they went missing since Tuesday evening.
According to barangay captain Richard Arrojado of Libas here, the four fishermen were found by Micheal Inoval of Brgy. Tabacan Batan town holding on pieces of lumber and a chest of the damaged motorboat they used in fishing near Batan, Aklan.
The four fishermen are Richard Mimay, Raul Carmen, Sanny Babela and Raquel Carmen, all of Brgy. Libas here. They were immediately rescued and given food by residents of Sitio Mambukyaw Brgy. Tabacan.
According to boat captain and owner Raul Carmen, he and three fellow fishermen used the piece of lumber and chest as an improvised life saver after the motorboat got destroyed by a strong wave. He said they kept on holding the lumber and chest for about two nights and three days until their rescue.
The boat owner said they borrowed a cellular phone and managed to contact their relatives in Roxas City.
Arrojado and several civilian volunteer organization (CVO) members fetched the four from Batan. The four were brought to Capiz Emmanuel Hospital for medical check-up and treatment and are now on stable condition
