PRESIDENT ROXAS — This town was set to receive P10 million from the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the upgrade of its slaughterhouse.
Mayor Raymund Locsin, representing the municipal government, signed a memorandum of agreement for the Slaughterhouse Rehabilitation Grant with DA Secretary Proceso Alcala.
The grant will be used to level-up the municipal slaughterhouse’s standard to AA.
Locsin assured that the project will be implemented according to the standards.
“I will create a special implementing unit that will closely supervise the implementation of the project and coordinate with the DA and the NMIS (National Meat Inspection Service),” he said.
Locsin and Alcala signed the agreement during the 1st Social Preparation Orientation Workshop, sponsored by the NMIS, at the Torre Venetia Suites, Quezon City on Thursday.
During the workshop, grant-recipient local government units were briefed on the project’s objectives and strategies, as well as the mechanics for its smooth implementation.
President Roxas was the only local government in Capiz to receive the grant.
“This project will ensure that the town will have a clean, healthy and sound meat produce,” Locsin said.
President Roxas’ slaughterhouse also caters to the needs of nearby municipalities.
NMIS will provide technical assistance to ensure that the project complies with the Good Manufacturing Practices and Sanitation Operation Procedure.
It will also offer a Slaughterhouse Operation and Management Orientation Seminar, a Butchers Training and a Basic Meat Inspection Course to enhance the skills of local government personnel assigned to the slaughterhouse.
Present to witness the signing were Municipal Administrator Marygold Chuatico, Municipal Engineer Ramon Burgos, Municipal Planning and Development Officer Joel Alba, OIC-Municipal Treasurer Jonathan Diosaban and NMIS representatives.
