Social pensioners to get Q4 share

ROXAS City — The Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 (DSWD-6) has released to municipal and city treasurers in Capiz the fourth-quarter pension of qualified Capiceño social pensioners. Capiz had a total of 1,699 qualified pensioners since 2011.

“Each pensioner will receive P1,500,” a DSWD – Capiz Field Office staff member said. Local government units will schedule the release of the social pension in their respective localities, the staff member said. The national government has allocated for the social pension this year more than P10 million, which were released on a quarterly basis. Eligible for the program were senior citizens 77 years old and above; frail, sick or with disability; and without pension or permanent source of income, or regular support from relatives to meet their basic needs.

The program aimed to alleviate poverty and support the elderly Filipino citizens as part of President Benigno Aquino III’s social contract and commitment to the Millennium Development Goals. The upcoming social pension distribution will sum up to P6,000 the financial assistance that each Capiceño social pensioner received from the national government this year.
