Roxas SWAT scores low in shooting contest

BY FELIPE CELINO

ROXAS City — The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team here landed on 11th place in a recently concluded shooting competition among the region’s SWAT teams in Iloilo. The team only got 160 points at a 71.77 time record — 2.248 hit factor, 160.0000 stage point and 100 stage percent — during the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) SWAT Challenge 2012, said one of its team members.

Members of the team lacked practice and preparation. They had been busy with the recently concluded Sinadya sa Halaran festival, a source from the Roxas City police station said. The Roxas SWAT team was the champion in the 1st PRO-6 Inter-SWAT Competition at the Iloilo Practical Shooting Association firing range in Brgy. Igang, Pototan, Iloilo in November last year. It bested its seven opponents in terms of speed and shooting accuracy. This year’s SWAT Challenge was held in the New Lucena Firing Range in New Lucena, Iloilo. It was participated by 12 teams.

It aimed to enhance the emergency and crisis skills of the SWAT teams. The SWAT team from Aklan topped the competition. Other participating teams were those from Negros Occidental (2nd place), Bacolod (3rd place), Silay City (4th place), Regional Public Safety Battalion 6 (5th place), Antique (6th place), Iloilo City Police Office (7th place), Iloilo (8th place), Guimaras (9th place), Capiz (10th place) and San Carlos City (12th place). The city’s police station last year received a Plaque of Merit as an Outstanding Police Station (Component City) in Western Visayas from then regional police director, Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr., during the 110th Police Service Anniversary Celebration in Camp Martin Delgado, Fort San Pedro, Iloilo City.
