DAO, Capiz — Mobile checkpoints will be conducted anywhere in Capiz now that some 70 members of the 301st Philippine National Police – Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) are in the province.

Leading the group as its commanding officer is Senior Insp. Victor Sobrepeña.

Sobrepeña said members of their group will be deployed in several areas in Capiz for counterterrorism, and will train the local police on special operations.

Their special mission is based on the directive of their superior, Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr., he said.

The 301st PNP-SAF arrived in Brgy. Manhoy here on Tuesday morning from General Santos City. It is led by five police officers, three inspectors and two senior inspectors.

As the PNP’s elite force, the SAF is trained in several special military combat-related courses and is engaged in anti-guerrilla and anti-terrorist operations.

It also provides support to other police units and executes related peace-keeping functions.

The team will be housed at the headquarters of the 314th PNP Mobile Company in Brgy. Manhoy.

A simple reception of acceptance between the 301st PNP-SAF and the Capiz Police Provincial Office will be held today, 2 p.m., at the PNP headquarters here.

Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. and other provincial government officials, Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) Director Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., and local government officials are attending.

The elite police force will augment the Regional Mobile Group battalion in the province, which the PRO-6 tasked to conduct checkpoints.
