ROXAS City — Another person died while Tropical Storm “Ofel” was battering Capiz last week, authorities said.
A resident of Brgy. Bongbongan, Maayon town who was said to have drowned was found floating in a river. Police are yet to identify him.
Thursday last week, a casual employee of the municipality of Dumarao died amid “Ofel.”
The victim was identified as Napoleon Gonzalez, 49, of Brgy. Codingle, Dumarao.
Gonzalez was on his way to catch fish in a river in the village when a tree fell on him, said Esperedion Pelaez, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) action officer.
His head hit a rock, resulting to a severe injury. He died while being taken to the Dumarao Health Center, Pelaez said.
Six barangays in Capiz were flooded due to the heavy rains brought by “Ofel” — Bangon-bangon, Cogon, Mansakul, Pinamalatican and Dayhagon in Sigma, and Agkilo in Panit-an.
Several roads in the said villages were impassable to small vehicles until the floodwater level subsided, Pelaez said.
The PDRRMC monitored others flood-prone towns like Tapaz, Dumalag, Sigma and Mambusao, while the Capiz Emergency Response Team was on standby to help the affected people.
