ROXAS City — Candidates of the Liberal Party (LP) in Capiz in the 2013 mid-term elections will file their respective certificates of candidacy (COCs) after the party officially proclaims them today.
A Mass at the Roxas City Metropolitan Cathedral, 8:30 a.m., and a caravan will be held prior to the proclamation at the Governor’s Hall of the Capiz Provincial Capitol, said Zoe Herrera Jr., Sangguniang Panlalawigan secretary.
LP candidates will then troop to the Commission on Elections offices in their respective towns to file their COCs.
Those who will file their COCs today will include candidates for positions in the city and provincial governments.
As for those from the towns, their schedule will depend on their respective leaders, party officials said.
Most LP candidates are incumbent officials seeking reelection, Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas II earlier said.
They include Gov. Victor Tanco, Vice Gov. Esteban Evan “Nonoy” Contreras, 1st District Rep. Antonio del Rosario, and Roxas City’s Mayor Angel Alan Celino, Vice Mayor Ronnie Dadivas and seven councilors.
Among the candidates of LP in the province include Sigma Mayor Mary Andaya, who will run for representative of the 2nd District, and her son, Vicente III or John-john, who will run for mayor of Sigma.
Andaya is the wife of the late three-termer 2nd District congressman Vicente Andaya Jr.
Roxas gave Tanco, del Rosario and Celino the task to fill the complete slate of LP in their turfs.
Meanwhile, three others seek to fill the three vacant slots in the City Council — Panay News columnist Dr. Cesar Yap Jr., Katrina Almalbis-Ignacio and, possibly, businesswoman Cora Balgos-Tianco.
Yap has ran for Provincial Board member in the 1st District of Capiz in the 2010 elections under the Ugyon Kita Capiz party but he lost.
Ignacio is the daughter of incumbent Councilor Teresa Almalbis who has opted not to run.
