ROXAS City — A total of 138 social pensioners in this city are set to receive their third quarter pension.
“All government social pensioners in the municipalities have already received their P1,500 social pension for the July, August and September period,” said Eliseo Abucay, public information officer of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 6.
Capiz has 1,699 qualified pensioners since 2011.
Senior citizens eligible for the program are 77 years old and above, frail, sick or with disability, and without pension or permanent source of income, or regular support from relatives to meet their basic needs.
Social pension for the last quarter of this year will be released in December, Abucay said during the meeting of the Capiz Association of Government Public Information Officers Inc. on October 10.
The program aims to alleviate poverty and support elderly Filipino citizens, as part of President Benigno Aquino III’s social contract and commitment to the Millennium Development Goals.
Pensioners will receive a monthly stipend of P500 on a quarterly basis, as mandated in Republic Act 9994 or the “Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.” (Alex Lumaque, PIA-6 Capiz.
