Motorcycle sideswipes policeman in checkpoint

ROXAS City — One of the policemen conducting a checkpoint on Arnaldo Boulevard here Sunday was hurt when an speeding motorcycle accidentally sideswiped him.

PO1 Jay Villafor, 24, of Isabela, Negros Occidental, sustained bruises on the different parts of his body.

Police identified the motorcycle driver as Mark Jonathan Refil, 20, of Brgy. Tanza Gua here.

His back rider was identified as Reymark Conrado of Brgy. Nagsulang, Dumarao town.

Authorities said Refil, who does not have a driver’s license, tried to elude the checkpoint.

After accidentally hitting Villaflor, Refil tried to escape. But the police caught him and recovered a 14-inch knife from him.

He is currently detained in the Roxas City police station. He will be charged with violation of Presidential Decree 1866 (illegal possession of deadly weapon).

Joint forces of the Roxas City police and the Capiz Police Provincial Office established the checkpoint to prevent crimes.
