Cop under probe over ‘shooting’

BY FELIPE CELINO ROXAS City — A policeman from Pontevedra town is under investigation for allegedly shooting a truck driver. Rec Leceña, 33, of Brgy. Dumolog here complained to the Pontevedra police station and accused PO2 Rommel Dangan of gunning him while he was driving a 10-wheeler wing van truck in the evening of January 24. Leceña was hit on the right arm and was taken to the Health Centrum Hospital here. That night, a heated argument between Leceña and his attacker led to the shooting, police reports said. It was after the suspect, who was driving a motorcycle, had overtaken the truck driven by Leceña. The victim later identified his shooter as Dangan, police said. Police recovered from the shooting scene a cartridge of a caliber .45. Leceña’s employer, Abel Ayke, also of Brgy. Dumolog here, went to the Pontevedra police station to file a complaint against Dangan, said Senior Insp. Elton Arcangeles, municipal police chief. Dangan, however, strongly denied any hand in the shooting. He said Leceña may have mistaken him for another person. Arcangeles said Dangan’s service firearm, a caliber .45, has been confiscated and was taken to the police crime laboratory for a ballistic test.
