ROXAS City — Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. ordered an investigation on the death of Jenfred Aranzado, who died due to the alleged negligence of personnel at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH).
Tanco also vowed to reorganize the hospital’s personnel and its system in admitting patients.
Complaints from patients in the government-run hospital fueled the governor’s decision.
“This is no longer good. We have to do something to instill the faith of the people who seek medical assistance in our government hospital,” he said.
One of the complaints came from a resident of Cuartero town.
The complainant, a mother, said she brought her two-week-old child to the RMPH after volunteers rescued them from a flooded area in their town two weeks ago.
But the RMPH did not admit them because they lacked a referral from the governor, the mother said.
People who seek medical assistance need no “referrals” to be attended to, Tanco stressed.
Aranzado, a resident of Brgy.
Majanlud, Sapian, fell from a tree on New Year’s Eve and sustained severe abdominal injuries.
He was first taken to the Capiz Emmanuel Hospital but was later transferred to the RMPH where he died.
According to his father, Rene, no doctor attended to them when they entered the RMPH; some nurses merely checked his son’s vital signs.
Rene believed his son would have survived had doctors in RMPH attended to him.
The RMPH had started an investigation on the alleged negligence of some hospital personnel, which resulted to Aranzado’s death.
There will be no whitewash in the probe; whoever is responsible will be penalized, assured RMPH chief of hospital, Dr. Ma. Celini Bauson.
Bauson required the nurse-on-duty and other hospital personnel who attended to the child to submit an incident report.
She said the RMPH had two surgeons-on-call when Aranzado arrived.
