ROXAS City – Registration is ongoing at the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) – Capiz Chapter for the second Million Volunteer Run (MVR) on February 10 here.
The simultaneous nationwide event dubbed “Run To Save Lives” aims, among others, to raise funds for the training of Red Cross volunteers.
PRC has organized Red Cross 143 Volunteers, a flagship volunteer program that recruits and trains 44 volunteers in every barangay – one leader and 43 members - on disaster management including disaster risk reduction and disaster response.
The event here will be participated by local government units, schools, media organizations, civic clubs and private groups, among others.
“Eleven local government units have already confirmed their participation to the event,” said PRC – Capiz Administrator Nelia Cartujano.
The early morning activity will start at the Roxas City Public Plaza and will end at the People’s Park in Brgy. Baybay here.
A short program will be conducted and capped by the distribution of certificates of participation to participants.
Registration fee is P100 for each runner.
“Part of the proceeds of the run will be used to fund the training program of 143 Red Cross volunteers,” Cartujano stressed.
In 2011, a similar activity was also conducted by PRC – Capiz as a way of promoting the spirit of volunteerism.
