Truck with ‘nipa’ shingles seized

BY FELIPE CELINO

ROXAS City — Police apprehended a truck loaded with about 6,000 pieces of nipa shingles in Brgy. Maninang, Sapian, Capiz.

They seized the Fuso truck — owned by Gaspar Mores Mano of Brgy. Candelaria, New Washington, Aklan — at a checkpoint in the barangay on Monday.

The truck driver, 53-year-old Honorato Montoya of Brgy. Candelaria, New Washington, failed to present a permit to transport the nipa shingles.

Along with Montoya were his helpers, William dela Cruz, 27, and Razel Labiano, 33, both of Brgy. Candelaria, New Washington.

Police turned over Montoya, his helpers and the nipa shingles to Arman Alania, officer-in-charge of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Sapian.

In another story, a man complained to the police that his motorcycle was stolen by three unidentified suspects.

Mark Alain Aguiling, 28, of Hemingway Street here told the police that his red Suzuki Smash was taken.

He said he only knew one of the suspects as a basketball varsity player.

Aguiling said the three waylaid him at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

The suspects fled using a Honda motorcycle, he added.

Police conducted a hot pursuit but were unable to arrest the suspects.
