ROXAS City — Authorities in Capiz have not yet apprehended violators of the election gun ban since the election period started.
Nobody from the province was caught carrying guns and deadly weapons since January 13, Senior Supt. Domingo Cabillan, provincial police chief, said on Saturday.
The Capiz Police Provincial Office has intensified its information campaign on the gun ban before the election period officially started.
It had also been setting up checkpoints in several towns in Capiz.
Earlier, Cabillan called for a meeting with municipal chiefs of police to orient them about Commission on Elections (Comelec) resolutions relative to the elections.
He has also been making himself available for media interviews to heighten public awareness on the election gun ban.
Aside from real firearms, toy guns will also be confiscated, Cabillan said.
Only uniformed members of the police, military, and other law enforcement agencies, including the Presidential Security Group, who are performing actual duty, are authorized to bear their weapons during the gun ban, the Comelec said in a resolution.
The use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidates, unless authorized in writing by the Comelec, and the organization or maintenance of reaction forces, strike forces or other similar forces are prohibited.
