‘Crackers hurt 7 in Capiz

BY FELIPE CELINO

ROXAS City — At least seven people in Capiz were injured because of using firecrackers during the New Year celebration. Four of them were from this city, two from Pontevedra town, and one from Ivisan, said Jeffrey Espiritu, information officer of the Provincial Health Office (PHO). Most of them were minors. They were sent home after their injuries, mostly on their hands and feet, were treated, Espiritu said.

The health officer did not identify the victims. There were no reported firecracker-related casualties in the province as of press time. Three reported incidents of firecracker-related incidents from Rural Health Units in Dao and President Roxas were yet to be confirmed. While records were not yet final, Espiritu said the number of firecracker-related incidents in Capiz during the New Year celebration in 2013 could be lower compared to 2012.

There were 29 firecracker-related injuries in 2012, records from the PHO showed. Meanwhile, Fire Officer 1 Marlon Garbo said the Bureau of Fire Protection in the province had registered zero fire incidents starting from the Christmas celebration until the New Year celebration.
