Ex-VM possesses 11 illegal guns

BY FELIPE CELINO

ROXAS City — In an interview during a follow-up investigation by the Dumarao police on the robbery case involving his stolen firearms, former Dumarao vice mayor Quiruben Pamplona revealed the 11 guns that robbers took from his house.

Most of the firearms had expired licenses, according to Senior Supt. Domingo Cabillan, Capiz police director. They were:

* 9mm Machine pistol with serial no. 631597 (expired license)
* 380 colt pistol with serial no. 147932 (expired license)
* 9mm UZI Machine pistol with serial no. 4538 (expired license)
* caliber .45 Springfield pistol with serial no. 839557 (expired license)
* caliber .45 Taurus with serial no. 91012 (expired license)
* 9mm Glock pistol with serial no. BCR6545 (expired license)
* 5.56 Baby Armalite Colt with serial no. 541944 (expired license)
* 5.56 M16 Armalite rifle with serial no. RP140519 (expired license)
* 9mm Machine pistol with serial no. 189753 (expired license)
* home-made shotgun (unlicensed), and
* home-made caliber .38 revolver (unlicensed).
“Is former vice mayor Pamplona maintaining an armory without security,” Cabillan asked.

Those who ransacked the house of Pamplona and took with them the high-powered firearms will surely be slapped with criminal cases, Cabillan said.

“There is an ongoing effort to identify the culprits. Once [we identify them], we will file charges against them,” he stressed.

But Pamplona may also be at risk of facing charges for possessing firearms with expired and without licenses.

He actually failed to renew his firearms’ licenses, but a notice has already been sent to him, Cabillan said, adding that the former official had been “negligent.”

Three unidentified people raided the house of Pamplona in Brgy. Siribawan, Dumarao, some 23 kilometers from Brgy. Poblacion, and took with them several high-powered firearms and ammunitions.

During the incident in the evening of October 25, Pamplona was in his other house in Brgy. Poblacion. When the police made an inspection after the incident, the former vice mayor told them that four firearms were stolen, Cabillan said.

But three days later, Pamplona said eleven firearms were taken away, he said.
