Roxas observes Universal Children’s Month

ROXAS City — This city observed the Universal Children’s Month through the coronation of the Roxas City Mr. and Miss Day Care 2012 at the Capiz gymnasium. “We have witnessed the various talents, skills and abilities of our children in psychosocial formation and in sports, which they have acquired and developed while attending day care services in 48 day care centers in the city,” said Cynthia Besana, Early Childhood Care and Development coordinator of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

Spearheaded by the CSWDO and the Roxas City Day Care Workers Association, last Tuesday’s event had the theme “Bright Child ay Siguraduhin, Responsableng Pamamahayag Palaganapin.” It was also part of Mayor Angel Alan Celino’s thrust to alleviate the children’s plight by extending day care services through the day care centers in 40 barangays here. The day care centers have been enjoying the support of local and barangay officials, Besana said. Children are the most important asset and wealth of our nation, Besana said in her speech. They should be provided with adequate care, attention and protection in the first six years of their lives, she said. Caregivers, guardians and the state shall provide the necessary help and assistance to ensure their optimum growth and development, she added.

The CSWDO officer also gave tribute to the day care workers. They act as substitute parents to the children, provide substitute parental care and attention, and teach moral, spiritual and other positive values to mold the children’s character and personality, Besana said. She commended them for their “noble acts and perseverance in rearing the children.” Speaking on behalf of Celino, Councilor Carla Abela also praised the day care workers for attending to the needs of children. Meanwhile, Besana thanked the Roxas City Council for the Protection of Children, headed by Celino, the city officials, partner agencies, and nongovernment and civic organizations, for their continuous support to the children. The city ranked third in the Most Child-friendly City (Component City) Regional Level Search and Evaluation for 2012.
