ROXAS City — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Capiz has delivered some 6,000 mosquito ovilarvicidal (OL) traps in public elementary and secondary schools in the province.
About 3,000 classrooms were covered by the initial roll out of OL traps in public schools in the province, records showed.
Beneficiaries of the anti-dengue kits were public elementary schools in Cuartero, Dao, Dumalag, Dumarao, Ivisan, Jamindan, Maayon, Mambusao West, Panay, Pilar, Pontevedra, President Roxas, Sigma and Tapaz.
National high schools in Ivisan,
Mambusao East, Pilar, Sigma and Tapaz East were among the initial beneficiaries of OL traps from among 18 public secondary schools in the province.
“All rooms including comfort rooms, canteens and libraries of all public schools in the province will have OL trap kits,” a DOST-Capiz briefer said.
Before the distribution of the kits, the DOST and the Department of Health conducted a trainers’ training on the roll out of mosquito OL traps in public elementary and secondary schools.
The same activity was conducted for public schools in this city in September.
The OL trap, a system developed by DOST, is composed of a black container, a small strip of plywood for mosquito to lay their eggs on, and a larvicide solution to kill the mosquito larvae that will hatch in the strip of wood and in the solution.
