ROXAS City — A man died while another was seriously wounded when logs to be made as posts of Capiz Electric Cooperative fell from a truck in Brgy. Dinginan here.
Charlo Balasan of Brgy. Matnog, Ivisan town, and Benjie Arcete, 22, of Brgy. Dulangan, Pilar, were pinned by the fallen logs.
Balasan was taken to a hospital here but died upon arrival.
Arcete, on the other hand, sustained injuries in the different parts of his body.
At the time, both were on top of the truck and tying the logs, according to James Gemodo, helper of the truck’s driver, Rey Sobiron.
Sobiron, 37, did not know that the victims were on the truck when he started the engine and drove after another helper gave him a go-signal, Gemodo said.
Three logs consequently gave way, pinning down the two, he said.
Sobiron, a resident of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, is in the custody of the city police.
In another story, a man died after his drinking buddy stabbed him in Brgy. Malag-it, Pontevedra.
Police identified the victim as Marlou Babela of Brgy. Malag-it and the suspect as Nene Dorado of Pilar.
A heated argument about land ensued between them while they were binge drinking, police said.
Dorado went to his room and the Babela followed him.
A few minutes later, Dorado hacked Babela on the neck and arms using a bolo.
The suspect fled after the incident.
